I want to come to therapy, but I also don’t want to come to therapy. Or, I feel scared to come to therapy. Or, I feel like I need therapy and then once I make the appointment I feel fine. Is this normal?

Absolutely, YES! It is completely normal to feel a range of emotions leading up to setting and attending your first appointment. You may realize something needs to change and still be afraid of what that change might look like or require of you. You may be feeling that your concerns or issues are not 'that bad' and only people with 'real' problems need therapy. Your thoughts, feelings and concerns regarding therapy may illustrate your relationship with yourself and your needs. The good news is- you don't have to explore these things alone, you will have a trustworthy, empathetic partner with you on the journey.

what is therapy like?
Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, therapy will be different depending on the individual.  In general, you can expect to discuss the current events happening in your life, your personal history relevant to your issue, and report progress (or any new insights gained) from the previous therapy session.  Depending on your specific needs, therapy can be short-term for a specific issue, or longer-term to deal with more difficult patterns or your desire for more personal development. Either way, it is most common to schedule regular sessions with your therapist (usually weekly). It is important to understand that you will get more results from therapy if you actively participate in the process.  The ultimate purpose of therapy is to help you bring what you learn in session back into your life. Therefore, beyond the work you do in therapy sessions, your therapist may suggest some things you can do outside of therapy to support your progress- such as reading a pertinent book, journaling on specific topics, noting particular behaviors or taking action on your goals. People seeking therapy are ready to make positive changes, are open to new perspectives, and take responsibility for their life.

How long are sessions and how many do I need?
Because therapy is tailored to a specific person, and the goals and challenges that person is facing, there’s no pre-defined period of time for on-going therapy sessions. Sometimes incredible progress is made in mere minutes, but it’s not uncommon for therapy to span several sessions over a period of weeks or months. Individual sessions are generally about 40-50 minutes in length.

is therapy confidential?
Confidentiality is one of the most important components between therapists and clients. Successful therapy requires a high degree of trust with highly sensitive subject matter that is not discussed anywhere but the therapist's office (there are a few exceptions to this as indicated below).  Each clinician discusses and provides a written copy of the confidential disclosure agreement with each client. You can expect that what you discuss in session will not be shared with anyone.  Sometimes, however, you may want your therapist to share information or give an update to someone on your healthcare team (your Physician, Attorney, etc.), but by law we cannot release this information without obtaining your written permission. We maintain strict confidentiality. However, Indiana state law and professional ethics require therapists to report the following to
the proper authorities: Suspected abuse or neglect of children or dependent adults and/or if the therapist has reason to suspect the client is seriously in danger of harming him/herself or someone else.

We currently accept United, Aetna and Anthem. We are considered out-of-network with all other insurances.

what forms of payment do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards, HSA/FSA cards and cash. The price for sessions is the same no matter how you pay. Whether paying by cash or card, please know that an active, functional credit or debit card is required to be kept on file for all clients. We use HIPAA-compliant credit card processors to store sensitive credit card data, and payments are integrated into the health record system (Simple Practice) for easy and secure billing. Once you have added a card, only the last 4 digits of the card will be visible to the practice; we will never have access to your entire credit card number.
